After Installing the Exchange Server 2016, a user does not need to create a new Database as Exchange itself creates a default database. However, the default database does not have a meaningful name, and its size may be quite less if you wish to save a much larger set of data in it. You can either rename it, increase its size quota or even delete it.<\/p>\n

Delete default mailbox database \u2013<\/h4>\n

To delete the default exchange database mailbox, you need to delete multiple associated mailboxes. Here is a set of commands which you need to move mailboxes from default mailbox database \u2013<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. To move arbitration mailbox, type the following command \u2013
    \n[PS] C:\\Windows\\system32>Get-Mailbox -Database “Mailbox Database 5865324204” -Arbitration | New-MoveRequest -TargetDatabase “NewDatabase”<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. To move monitoring mailboxes, type of the following command \u2013
    \n[PS] C:\\Windows\\system32>Get-Mailbox -Database “Mailbox Database 5865324204” -Monitoring | New-MoveRequest -TargetDatabase NewDatabase<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. To move AuditLog mailboxes, type the following command \u2013
    \n[PS] C:\\Windows\\system32>Get-Mailbox -Database \u201cMailbox Database 5865324204\u201d -AuditLog | New-MoveRequest -TargetDatabase NewDatabase.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    After successful deletion of all the associated mailboxes, you can finally delete the default Exchange mailbox database. It will confirm whether you want to delete it or not. Click Yes.<\/p>\n

    If you do not want to delete the default mailbox database, then you can choose to either increase the size quota or rename it as you want.<\/p>\n

    Change default mailbox quotas \u2013<\/h4>\n

    Exchange Management Console is the place where you can make the desired changes in Exchange mailbox database. Follow the steps \u2013<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Follow Start<\/strong> >> All Programs >> Windows Essential Business Server<\/strong>, and finally click Windows Essential Business Server Administration Console.<\/li>\n
    2. Select the Computers and device<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
    3. Select the server which you had named as messaging server, and in tasks pane, click Exchange Management Console<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    4. Expand Server Configuration<\/strong>, and click Mailbox<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    5. In the list, click your Messaging server name.<\/li>\n
    6. Under Database Management<\/strong>, go to First Storage Group<\/strong>, and finally, click Mailbox Database<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    7. Click Properties<\/strong> in Action<\/strong> panel.<\/li>\n
    8. In the Mailbox Database Properties<\/strong>, select the Limits<\/strong> tab, make changes to the Storage Limits<\/strong> settings and click OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Rename default mailbox database \u2013<\/h4>\n

      To rename the default mailbox database to your organization\u2019s requirements, follow the simple procedure written here \u2013<\/p>\n

      1. Go to Exchange Admin Center<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      2. Go to Servers<\/strong> and Databases<\/strong> option.<\/li>\n
      3. Select the desired database.<\/li>\n
      4. Now run the following command \u2013
        \nGet-MailboxDatabase -Identity \u201cMailbox DatabaseName\u201d | Set-MailboxDatabase -Name \u201cNew Database Name\u201d.<\/strong><\/li>\n
      5. Finally, run the command Get-MailboxDatabase<\/strong> to check the updated list of databases.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
