BACKGROUND

IndControl Electronics, is one of the leading names in repairing and supplying industrial electronics, battery chargers, power supplies, and telecommunications systems. The company has got a fully-equipped workshop, where their experienced and trained technicians repair circuit boards and other components. Everything was working smooth, until the staff had experienced some strange Exchange behavior, due to which they were unable access the mailbox data. The problem had occurred in Outlook mailbox (currently-used emailing platform), which was used by the technical department of the company, engaged in managing sales and service support of the organization.

ISSUE

The incident of failure was accompanied with an error message, indicating the following message:

Unable to expand the folder. The set of folders could not be opened. Errors could have been detected in the file xxxx.ost. Quit all mail-enabled applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool.

However, the client had tried closing all mail-enabled applications to see if the situation could be rectified, but it failed. The Inbox repair tool was also executed to see if the pertaining issues could be fixed manually. As Outlook was running with Exchange Server, so the problem could be occurring due to accidental deletion from Exchange, Exchange crash, etc.

CAUSE
